Action Alert: Ask senators to oppose move toward banning natural gas in homes and businesses

Article from AWB

AWB sent out an Action Alert this morning, urging employers to oppose House Bill 1770.

This bill would allow the unelected members of the State Building Code Council to
take steps to ban natural gas in private homes, apartments and commercial buildings. This bill will result in a steep increase in energy costs for employers and consumers. Such restrictions would also make it harder for families to stay warm during the winter months when the electrical grid is stressed or the power goes out.

If enacted, homeowners looking to renovate their houses or build a new one would be unable to use natural gas past 2030. The bill takes no direct action against natural gas but allows the governor-appointed State Building Code Council to create a code that effectively bans natural gas appliances in homes and businesses.

AWB urges employers to contact their senators and ask them to oppose HB 1770. With more people moving to Washington and electricity becoming more expensive, natural gas is an important and affordable energy choice consumers can count on during inclement weather.
