New record for gas prices reached in Washington and nation

Article from AWB

Washington gas prices set a new record last Wednesday at $4.89 a gallon, The Olympian reports. The Evergreen State ranks No. 4 in the country for the most expensive gasoline. Prices ranged from $5.46 a gallon in San Juan County to $4.47 a gallon in Asotin County.

The national price set a record as well at $4.40 a gallon.

Washington's economy is powered by exports, including manufactured goods and agricultural commodities. These goods rely on gasoline and diesel fuel both during the production process and later as these goods are exported to markets.

Earlier this year, the Washington state gas tax of 49.4 cents per gallon ranked No. 8 in the country, according to the Tax Foundation.
