Small trucking fleets hit hard by rising fuel prices

Article from AWB

ig increases in the price of diesel are making a big impact on trucking's smallest operators, according to the Wall Street Journal's Logistics Report.

Some fleets are t
aking steps to conserve fuel, described as a "shock factor" across the sector. Diesel prices have surged to $5.25 a gallon on average – nearly $2 a gallon higher than a year ago.

Several carriers are passing along higher fuel surcharges to shipping customers, and one operator reports he “may park trucks without relief.”

Relief measures are being discussed around the world. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed an $11 billion relief package that would make direct payments to car owners, and reduce fuel taxes. Germany is also cutting fuel taxes, the newspaper reports, and aid for truckers has been debated in Spain as well.
